1. How can a ball be caught after kick-off?
Kick-off will determine an intersection where the ball is placed. After this occurs, the kicking team and then the other will move their men towards that intersection. Moves must be vectorial until a figure reaches the intersection where the ball is. Placing the figure exactly on that intersection, the ball is picked up and is placed on the figure’s side. This player is the first ball carrier of the game.
2. Which is the best way to move the attacking team mates of the ball carrier?
After moving the ball carrier, 2 are the reasons to move the 3 remaining attackers.
First, is to build a passing action: it is best to continuously put players in movement that run along trajectories that are more or less parallel to the ball carrier. Being behind, they can in any moment receive the ball and run, being in movement, in the same turn of the ball passing. The result is a continuous closeness to the opponents’ try-line.
Second, the attacker’s coverage: this is made by the free moves which enable to place still players up to 2 intersections behind the ball carrier. This players’ presence is fundamental for the ball carrier’s tackle: they can intervene forming a ruck or a maul or simply pick up a tackled play mate’s released ball.  Furthermore, the presence of a good passing player can ease the ball’s movement for great distances in one turn, in case of a drop.
3. Which is the best way to move the defenders?
Rugby World’s rules are written to generate a game attack, but it is also possible to get thrilled moving the defending team. In order to defend well, it is important to foresee the offensive’s action. Therefore, defense must continuously be moved so as to: a) continually tackle the ball carriers (so that time rolls by for the possession rule) applying the vectorial movement, b) prepare the back rows with free moves in order keep the 22 meter line defended once the opposing ball carrier enters it (at this point, only vectorial movements
are arrowed).
We suggest hard tackle in case of tough situations.
4. When a tackled player must release the ball, can a player who participated to the tackle take it?
No, he cannot do so. The players who participated to the tackle cannot pick the ball even if they broke away from the tackle (this can occur in rugby).
