RUGBY sport: brief outline

RUGBY IS PLAYED BY 2 TEAMS OF 15 PLAYERS EACH.
It is a game of controlled aggression, however all members must always play within the rules. The aim is to score a try, winning and grounding the ball beyond the opponents’ try-line.

WHILE RUNNING FORWARD, THE PLAYER WITH THE BALL
can only pass the ball backwards, however he can kick the ball forward at any time. Rugby is the only sport where this occurs. rugby-game

THE DEFENDING TEAM uses the tackle to stop the opponents’ advance, preventing them from scoring a try, and to regain the ball so that they may score instead. Only the player with the ball can be tackled; a tackle is completed when the ball carrier is held and brought to the ground. This player must immediately release the ball.

Each Rugby team is separated into forwards and backs.

RUGBY in a box

RUGBY WORLD IS RUGBY IN A BOARD GAME.
Ghenos games’ aim has been, from the beginning, to produce a product that could please both experts and beginners who want to approach this sport.

RUGBY WORLD’S RULES ARE RUGBY’S RULES. When reading them, the meaning of touch, in-goal area, offside, scrum, ruck, kicks and of the players’ roles will be clear.

THE 16 TEAMS’ SHIRT DETAILS ARE VERY NICE
and the speed, strength and passing ability are reproduced on each player. These characteristics are different from team to team so reproducing a distinction among South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, England, France, Italy and the best planet’s teams.

Every National team has 4 special cards featuring names and characteristics from its Rugby tradition. These cards, to be played during the match, determine special and important effects on the game’s course.

HOW TO PLAY

THE AIM OF THE GAME
is to take the ball beyond the opposition’s try-line or to kick it between the goalposts with a Drop kick (during the active game) or a Penalty kick.

THE ATTACKING AND DEFENDING TEAMS ALTERNATE IN TURN;
4 moves can be made in each turn. This allows Rugby World to be played by 4 players against 4.

Without the use of dice, THE PLAYERS’ MOVEMENTS CAN BE MADE, BY:
  • applying the vectorial movement rule, SIMILAR TO THE ONE USED TO MOVE BOLIDE’S CARS. A token is used (of the same number and colour of the player) allowing to run on the field’s intersections in any direction and at the desired speed up to the player’s maximum speed marked on its figure (this is why a wing is generally faster than a flanker)
  • free move, that is to move up to 3 figures by hands, placing them at will on the field grid, provided the placed figure is in-side and at least 2 intersections behind the intersection where the ball or ball carrier is. rugby-elements_light.jpg
While the TOKEN VECTORIAL MOVEMENT produces tries in a practical way,
the FREE MOVE enables the continuous re-organization of the line-up, it helps the defence players put pressure on the figure carrying the ball, and it allows the attackers to continuously protect the ball.

A KICK IS CONSIDERED A MOVE.
The 12-sided die is rolled and two probability tables are consulted to evaluate the:
  • ball range
  • likelihood of success of a drop, penalty or conversion kick.
BY THE UP-MENTIONED MOVEMENTS AND THE KICKS,
rugby is faithfully simulated. The game runs fluid to look like a real game:
  • attack advances by a hand (or passing) or kick game
  • defense tackles (its rule is nice and easy) trying to separate an attacker stealing him he ball or putting pressure on the opponents forcing them to get rid of the ball kicking it into touch.
Rugby World’s game tactics are infinite and satisfactory for experts.
After a few games, non-experts will surly be part of this romantic and proud rugby world.

We mention two expressions that describe this sport:
I love rugby not because it is violent, but because it is intelligent” (Sagan, French writer)
Men have always played at fighting. Rugby allows them to  but in respect of rules. It is a hard sport and this is its main virtue” (Lord Wakefield, great rugby man)

Have a nice game.
